Self-Obsession – Naturalness – Being
The Shadow of Self-Obsession – Self-Obsession is the fixation of attention solely on one’s own body and inner world, thus excluding consideration for others and one’s impact on the environment. Self-Obsession is programmed to put oneself as the top priority. This is the unhealthy mental obsession of seeking one’s uniqueness and how to follow it into the world, expressed through addictions such as fashion and self-image, business achievement, or social popularity and influence. Narcissism does not accept other’s uniqueness, and often only sees what it wants to change in other people in order to match personal agendas or preferences. Self-Obsession is a tightening and constriction of the body and breath, rooted in the fear of losing one’s personal identity. While the search for one’s own unique personal purpose is an essential aspect of the human journey, doing so as an attempt to alleviate the fear of insecurity only results in self-obsessive loops. The endless chase of attaining recognition or self-knowledge creates a mental net of projections and delusions. Self-Obsession is the addiction of seeking recognition within family, business, or social settings as well as the trap of vapid self-help techniques and spiritual teachings. Self-Obsession is run by the incessant need to be validated by others. While the reactive nature may be narcissistic, this Self-obsession can also be expressed through an attitude of self-denying. These types of people live entirely for others, compromising their own power onto outside authority figures and living through unhealthy martyrdom patterns.
The Gift of Naturalness – Naturalness is the effortless expression of one’s true creativity and uniqueness beyond any definition, label, or external validation. Naturalness is about relaxing into the playful innocence that is inherently available to all beings, instead of fighting against the flow of life. Becoming natural may include a deep period of inquiry, to question the ideas and conditioning that has defined one’s personality through social or family expectations, and projections of success or value in media, business, and education. This period of inquiry includes conscious isolation and spaciousness from outside influences and previous responsibilities, to allow naturalness to softly emerge from within. Inevitably, Naturalness requires a deep letting-go of mental, emotional, and spiritual practices and techniques since no outside knowledge will ever replace inner awareness and natural embodiment.
The Siddhi of Being – Being is the enlightened revelation that there is nothing to do, think, or say. In this context, the purpose of life is to Be. The state of true Being sees life as a great game and enjoys each moment with a sense of lightness and humor. Being is attained through deep relaxation into the present moment.
