The Susurrium

A Lexicon of contemplative words

n. a gathering place where new and old words weave,
dance and cavort together on the fringes of silence.

IN RICHARD'S WORDS

A word before the words

The English language is a magnificent hoarder. It has wonderful words for the precise hue of a horse’s coat and for the sound a particular Yorkshire beck makes over stone, and yet it has very little that describes the various states a contemplative person moves through on a daily basis. There is no word for the taste that one silence makes grating against another, or for the beauty that arrives while you are busy making something else, or for the way a bell keeps opening long after it has been struck.

Richard Rudd

‘The best of them are not definitions at all but portals into the contemplative state, and the only way to find out where a portal leads is to walk through it.’

Richard Rudd
