& the Gene Keys

Discover how the Gene Keys system weaves astrology with archetypes to reveal deeper patterns behind your personality and life path. This resource shows how your birth chart and zodiac sign link to 64 powerful archetypes, helping you understand your gifts, challenges and purpose. Learn how the 64 Gene Keys align with the zodiac wheel, how planetary positions influence your profile and how astrology adds depth to the archetypes within the Gene Keys system.

The Role of Astrology in the Gene Keys

The synthesis between the I Ching and Western Astrology compose the primary coordinates for the Gene Keys Transmission.  The hexagrams of the I Ching are the fundamental 64 genetic archetypes that make up the Gene Keys, and their overlay onto the Astrological wheel gives the Gene Keys context into our personal lives.

Set to a logarithmic pattern around the zodiac, each of the 64 hexagrams has a unique position along the wheel, finding its home in a particular astrological sign.  This Zodiacal I Ching is a finely tuned astro-genetic tool used most commonly in the Gene Keys to generate the Hologenetic Profile. The planetary alignments on the day of one’s birth (and that of 88 days prior) are calculated using the hexagram wheel, determining a unique set of Gene Keys are laid out to form each individual blueprint.

‘From time immemorial, mankind has devised intuitive systems to understand the rhythms and timing of when people are born. There are obvious and fundamental truths that different cultures have discovered. Each of the 64 Gene Keys has a position within the arc of the year, creating a unique genetic astrology for each of us.’

Astrology Attributes in the Living Library

In the Living Library, every Gene Key has an additional attribute card describing the Astrology Archetype represented by that Zodiac Sign. The Astrology and Gene Keys Descriptions were created by Amma Li Grace and Gemini Brett.

Included in these interpretations of each Zodiac sign is a new “Spectrum of Consciousness” for the archetype, featuring a Shadow Gift and Siddhi for each Zodiac sign. Contemplate these archetypes in connection with the Gene Key and see what insights emerge!

Astrological Coordinates of the Gene Keys

For those engaged in Western Astrology, this is a tool to discover greater synthesis between the two systems.

The position of the planets at the time of birth gives us great meaning in our personal lives. But it doesn’t stop there. We can also track the current planetary positions, or transits, as they orbit the sun in relation to the Earth. Much can be revealed about our present reality and the the archetypal patterns playing out in our lives by mapping the movements of the planets through the Zodiacal I Ching. Questions like: ‘ What Gene Key is the full moon in this month?’ -or- ‘Which of the 64 keys did Mercury go retrograde in last month?’ are inquiries we can explore together in the Lab with the Gene Keys ephemeris, or you can discover in your own personal astrological investigations.

How many degrees is each Gene Key / Line?

Each Gene Key (Hexagram / Gate) is distributed evenly across the Zodiacal wheel. Meaning… 360 degrees / 64 = 5.625 degrees per Gene Key Hexagram 5.625 degrees / 6 lines = .9375 degrees per Line The lines are progressive, so ever .9 degrees it changes to the next line. Meaning the planets traverse from 17.1 to 17.2 progressively to 17.6 before moving to the next Gene Key in sequence 21.1. The lines always move from 1 to 6. This is why it is “approximately” 6 days per Gene Key, and “approximately” 1 day per line. But not precisely.

Tracking the Gene Key of the Day

The Gene Keys Pulse tracks the current global theme through the position of the Sun as it moves through each of the 64 Gene Keys within the year. Approximately every 5 and a half days, the Sun travels through each of the six line permutations of a Gene Key before changing to the next hexagram in sequence. For example, January 6th, 2020 marked the beginning of the sun’s travel through Gene Key 54. It begins at 54.1, and proceeds through 54.2, 54.3, 54.4, 54.5, and finally becoming 54.6 on January 11th, 2020. The Pulse Calendar tracks this global theme as Gene Key 54 (January 6th – January 12th).

Which planets are connected to each sphere?

“In the great wheeling arc of the 64 Gene Keys, every Gene Key has an exact position in relationship to the cosmos and thus filters the cosmic stream as it enters our planetary system.”

Tropical vs Sidereal

The hexagram wheel of the 64 correlates to the Zodiac of Tropical Astrology, as opposed to that of Sidereal Astrology. The Tropical Zodiac is based upon the relationship between the Earth and the Sun, where each sign correlates to the seasonal cycles of Earth as it orbits the Sun on its axis. For instance, each cardinal sign begins at the solstice and equinox points of each year. Sidereal Astrology, on the other hand, charts the signs to the position of the fixed star constellations in the sky, which due to the precession of the equinox, is moving 1 degree every 71.6 years.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Gene Keys are neither astrology nor are they a traditional profiling system. Each Gene Key and its line is a touchstone for a process of inner transformation, therefore it is not necessary to be too fixated on the system itself. The power of this work comes from your willingness to own your own Shadow patterns and your ability to envision your life at its highest frequency.

– Richard Rudd, The Hologenetic Profile

Some people have found interesting correlations with other systems of Astrology and Human Design, including different ways of calculating their profile (Vedic, Sidereal, etc). As Richard Rudd was not trained in these modalities, he does not have any input on alternative calculations. If you are astrological minded, perhaps you will feel drawn to try out your profile in one of these variations.

For newcomers, we highly recommend you stick the to  basics. All of the programmes on genekeys.com will include the standard Hologenetic Profile calculations as you find it on the Free Profile page. The core teachings will reference this profile inside the Golden Path courses.

Not all courses require your hologenetic profile, and you can find your own intuitive connection to the material. You are welcome to explore other ways of exploring your profile and the Gene Keys! The most important thing to keep in mind when contemplating this way is that the Map is not the Terrain.

Yes, other planets are incorporated into further Sequences that are currently in development.

In the Gene Keys system, Programming Partners are pairs of Gene Keys that are directly opposite each other on the astrological wheel, forming a dynamic interplay of energies. There are 64 Gene Keys, resulting in 32 pairs of Programming Partners. These pairs are intrinsically linked, each influencing and complementing the other.

What Are Programming Partners?

  • Oppositional Relationship: Each pair consists of two Gene Keys that are mirror opposites, both in their positioning on the astrological wheel and in their energetic qualities. For instance, if you’re contemplating the 7th Gene Key, its Programming Partner is the 13th Gene Key, positioned directly across from it. These two are always influencing each other, whether consciously acknowledged or not.
  • Hexagram Structure: In the I Ching’s hexagram system, Programming Partners exhibit a unique symmetry. If one hexagram comprises three yin lines followed by three yang lines, its partner will have the reverse: three yang lines followed by three yin lines. This structural opposition underscores their complementary nature.

Astrological software is based off a planetary database known as an “Ephemeris”. Different systems have different ways to calculate the location, time zone, and relationship to different planetary bodies. The Gene Keys Profile is based off of the most recently updated Swiss Ephemeris, and calculates by birth city location. While these calculations will be the same across most widely accepted astrology and human design programs, a small percentage of people may discover slight variations when compared to an older version of the profile.

The Attractor Field is a common place for this discrepency, as the moon is the fastest changing cosmic body used in the Hologenetic Profile, though you may also see it in other Spheres of the profile.

First, please be sure to double check your location, date and time of birth compared in both charts. Please note we use 24 hour clock when selecting your birth time.

If you still see a discrepancy of your Gene Key or line between your two profiles, this means the other program is based on a different Ephemeris or calculates location differently. You can read and contemplate the information given for both versions of your profile in the Golden Path Program and the Gene Keys book and trust your intuition to find the best fit for you.

Please note that some Human Design software estimates your location in order to generate a time zone difference, it is not always based on your exact birth city. For your Gene Keys profile specifically, we recommend running your profile on this website and not use third party software. If you prefer to adjust your Genekeys.com profile to match another system, you may need to adjust the birth time and/or location by a few degrees to match other astrological systems.

We do have it on our development list to allow “alternative calculations” as an expanded feature of our Profile Generator. But to avoid confusion for newcomers, we recommend everyone to try the Gene Keys profile as it has been generated on this website and see what insights emerge for you.

Sometimes people have 2 or more Spheres in their Profile with the same Gene Key. This demonstrates a major focus on this same theme in your life. The line keynotes may or may not be different as well. Wherever you spot a synchronicity in your profile, follow it with your gentle inquiry and playful curiosity. There is an important theme waiting for you inside this Gene Key.

Having two or more of the same Gene Key brings a much deeper significance to the theme of its Shadow, Gift, and Siddhi. As you Contemplate the Gene Key or Gene Keys that repeat in your Profile, try and penetrate the mystery of what this means for you. Allow the essence of that Gene Key to really infuse your being and bring its Gifts and Siddhis into your heart. In time, the essence and true meaning will reveal themselves to you through a reflection in your life.

For the astrologically minded: The Gene Keys are calculated from astrological coordinates. When two planetary bodies occupy the same range of degrees, they often share the same Gene Key. Every Gene Key lasts about 5.7 degrees in the zodiac. The Gene Keys also takes into account the planetary coordinates 88 days before birth. Many people have similar Gene Keys in their Pearl / Culture, because this is the slower moving planet of Jupiter, and may not leave the range of that key in 88 days. You will also see similar combinations of Activation Sequence, as there are 192 different combinations possible with the Prime Gifts, based on the geometry of what is known as the “Incarnation Cross” in Human Design.

The Gene Keys are accessible to all people, whether or not you know your birth time. For those who were adopted, or simply do not have access to their birthdate, location, and/or time can still find great benefit from these teachings. Below are a few examples of how to approximate your hologenetic profile, or which courses do not require inputting your birth time.

Check different profiles by approximating your birth time

If you do not know your accurate time, we suggest using the Free Profile and generate several different versions. We suggest starting with noon (12:00 PM). Your time of birth may not always have much effect on your Gene Keys Profile. It depends on whether you were born on or near a changing cusp. If in doubt, you can do several Profiles and try a range of times (e.g., early in the morning and late in the evening). Then compare the Profile report (especially looking at the Gene Key numbers) and see if there is any difference. If there is a difference, then you can read and contemplate the information given in the Golden Path Program and the Gene Keys book and trust your intuition to find the best fit for you.

Do I need to adjust for daylight savings or time zone?

No, the profiler will do these calculations for you. All you need to do is enter your birth time and the birth location (or any city within the same time zone as your birth town).

Ways to explore the Gene Keys without a birth date / time

While the Hologenetic Profile can be a very powerful way to explore the Gene Keys, they are all portals of wisdom available to anyone at any time. There are other courses that do not directly correlate to birthdate at all, and still provide potent contemplations for your life.

Courses without birthdate / time

  • Art of Contemplation
  • The Delta Programme
  • Seven Sacred Seals
  • The Epiphany Experience
  • Dare to be Divine

Other ways to contemplate the Gene Keys

  • Many people have found great insights by using the book or 64 Ways audios as an “oracle”. You can randomly choose one of the 64 keys by drawing a card, throwing the i ching, or randomly open the book to a specific chapter and draw wisdom from the present moment.
  • There are many beautiful decks and apps out there that reference the 64 hexagrams and can be used as an aid to contemplate the Gene Keys. Such as the Wisdom Keepers deck by Rosy Aronson, and the Gene Keys Synthesis Deck by Elijah Parker.
  • You can also visit https://genekeys.com/ home page and choose a random Gene Key via the generator there.
