Freedom and Romance are two faces of the same jewel. They are inseparable. Freedom describes the movement – the release, the escape from the net of victim consciousness. Romance describes the arrival – the warm recognition that what you have been longing for has also been longing for you.
Twenty years ago, Richard wrote of ‘the true world of high romance that is to come,’ and now the word that has been waiting from the very beginning – Romance – has finally arrived.
This is not the romance of candlelight and roses. It is something far older and more demanding – the love of the body, the love of the world, the love that contains grit and earth and messiness and still does not diminish. It is nirvana realised within samsara. The wound as the cure. The sacred not elsewhere, but here.
