Gene Keys Guide

Some maps find you at exactly the right moment.

I came to the Gene Keys carrying the weight and richness of a full life — poet, mother of four, grandmother of two, teacher, community builder, seeker. I hold two master’s degrees in English, which taught me that language is never neutral — that the words we use to tell our own story either imprison or liberate us. That conviction runs through everything I do.

I live in the mountains of Western North Carolina, where I lead the Play Network — a grassroots model for building coherent, authentic community through the lost art of genuine play. I’m also founding a sangha and school rooted in the understanding that the old structures are crumbling, and that something worth protecting needs to be seeded now. I am a collapse-aware big wave rider and believe the 2027 shift — the rising of the Cross of the Sleeping Phoenix — is not a prophecy to fear but an invitation to prepare, to ripen, to become what we came here to be.

The Sleeping Phoenix is my own incarnation cross. This work is not abstract to me.

The Gene Keys are extraordinary on the page. But wisdom that stays in a book doesn’t change a life — and it certainly doesn’t change a neighborhood. Everything I do is oriented around one question: how do we take this language of light off the page and into the body, the community, the daily texture of a lived life? How do we awaken the innate wisdom already alive in each person, so they can use it — practically, locally — to build islands of coherence wherever they are?

That’s the heartbeat of Shut Up n’ Serve (SUNS) — a free weekly gathering I co-host with Gene Keys Guide and Ambassador Joanne Ellis. Every Thursday, 5–8pm EDT, in person and on Zoom, we move through all 64 Gene Keys in sequence, weaving conscious play, meditation, movement, and Appreciative Inquiry into a living container. The premise is simple and a little radical: you cannot logic your way into awakening. SUNS is about quieting the mechanism that keeps you in your head and opening into something older and truer, and so much funner.

For those joining on Zoom, the invitation goes further: bring people in. Use this container as a seed. The goal isn’t just personal transformation — it’s local coherence. Your town, your people, your emerging community of pilgrims. SUNS is free and it’s building something real.
If you want to go deeper into community building on the ground, the Play Network offers a scalable model for doing exactly that. Volunteers are welcome.
